Ancient
Type: Ancient
The oldest checked and tartan-like cloths, from long before the Scottish clan system — a family of finds rather than a lineage. Holds the Tarim Basin family, and directly the Iron-Age Hallstatt check and the Roman-era Vindolanda check from Hadrian's Wall (c. AD 100). Each is a judgement drawn from a fragment — a place on the tartan timeline, not a measured sett.
