Last of the Masai

Type: Artefact · Part of: Masai

The Masai Shuka artefact setts: thread counts estimated by the Scottish Tartans Authority from colour photographs in 'Last of the Maasai' (John Eames, photographs by Mohamed Amin and Duncan Willetts, Camerapix, 1995). Recorded by the STA only — never imported to the Scottish Register, so they carry ITI numbers alone. The shuka's own story — the ochre-and-hide origins, the Amerikani muslin, the contested tartan lineage and the 1901 Hinde references — is told in the Maasai shuka post (/posts/maasai-shuka/).
