Lorne District Tartan Tartan Number: 6. Earliest known date: 1871 Designed to commemorate the marriage of the Marquis John (later 9th Duke) to Princess Louise, daughter of Queen Victoria. Adopted by the 5th Royal Scots of Canada on assuming a Scottish identity for the whole regiment in 1880. The Marquis was Governor-General of Canada.
