Williams Welsh Name Tartan Tartan Number: 3234. Earliest known date: 2002 The tartan for this Welsh surname and its variations, Williamson, Wills, Gwylim, is commercially accepted as a tartan or plaid in Wales, this is one of the tartans actually woven in Wales at the Cambrian Woollen Mill, weaving on the same site since 1830. This tartan differs from many traditional patterns in that the warp and weft differ, giving the finished worsted wool cloth more of a predominant stripe , vertically noticeable in the finished Kilt, or Cilt in Wales. Laing Clan/Family Tartan Tartan Number: 6096. Earliest known date: pre 1765 This is the Clan Laing Society tartan which was recovered from the grave of George Henry Laing who died in 1853 in East Texas. James, his grandfather, had moved to The North Carolina Scottish Colony of the Cape Fear River from Scotland some time between 1745 and 1765 bringing the sett with him. The relatively dry climate and local soil conditions are account for the remarkable preservation of his great kilt to allow the reconstruction of the sett.
