Provenance
Earliest known date: pre 1800 An "Old superfine tartan sett" from Wilson's Key pattern book. Possibly a Fencibles tartan. Fencibles were a kind of Home Guard formed at the time of the Napoleonic Invasion threat. It is generally accepted as a district tartan and known to have existed as early as 1797. One of the original specimens of this tartan can be found in the West Highland Museum in Fort William. 1819 Key Pattern Book. One of the Strathmore Wilsons range.
