Provenance

Earliest known date: 1988 This tartan was designed to commemorate the first settlers from the Free Church of Scotland who stepped ashore on the 23rd of March 1848, at Otago Harbour, New Zealand, after a voyage of 116 days. It was at the upper end of this harbour they established the first settlement which was to become the City of Dunedin sometimes known at the Edinburgh of the South. Dunedin District Tartan is the copyright property of Vilma R. Nelson.
