Provenance
Earliest known date: 1996 The historic connection between the Forbes and the Sempills is the reason for the similarity of the tartans. Sir Thomas Innes of Learney GCVO Lord Lyon 1945 - 1969 suggested that red should be use in the tartan because that colour was in the Sempill chevron. The white in the Forbes was adjusted to light blue as a late change and a further difference.
