  • 01/01/1980 — Turnbull Dress (register-of-tartans, record)
Sample in Scottish Tartans Authority Johnston Collection. Woven by Lochcarron. Unusual in that as a dress tartan it has no white. Bob Martin mentioned - not known whether info source or designer. Sample in Scottish Tartans Authority's Dalgety Collection has the green so dark as to appear black. This has the same geometry as a Douglas tartan and in "Tartans" William H.Johnston & Philip D.Smith jr is named as Douglas of Roxburgh.
  • pre 1980 — Turnbull Dress (Clan) (tartans-authority, record)
Bob Martin is mentioned in the original notes - not known whether info source or designer. Sample in STA Dalgety Collection has the green so dark as to appear black. This is now accepted by the Turnbull Clan Association as their dress tartan. They appear to have two tartans - dress and hunting
