For those of the name from the desinger Alan Legary who is a descendent of Sir John A. MacDonald. It's believed that the name may have come from Gary or Gayre. Glasgow born "Sir John A MacDonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 - June 6, 1891) was Canada's first prime minister, and was knighted for his efforts in bringing about Confederation.
