- 01/01/1815 — Baillie (Highland Society) (register-of-tartans, record)
This sett appears in the Highland Society of London collection. It is the same as Logan's Forbes tartan which is similar to the Lamont. The use of purple suggests that the sample was woven by William Wilson of Bannockburn, but Wilson produced a different sett for Baillie. The most rational explanation is that this pattern was worn by many families before clan and family names became associated with tartans. Wilsons of Bannockburn was a weaving firm founded c1770 near Stirling. The Highland Society of London started collecting tartans in 1815. - undated — Baillie (weddslist, record)
